The three different methodologies we use to assess price – Market on Close (MOC), Survey and Volume Weighted Index – are robust, rigorous and open for all to see, and our systems are built around the principle of testing a price in the market. Our methodologies provide consistency through principles and parameters that guide our market specialists every moment of every day.
We publish the bids, offers and intentions to trade submitted by market participants in real-time throughout the day, providing unparalleled visibility into the market. Once the market has closed we analyze all data submitted and then make price assessments that reflect an end-of-day value. Our MOC assessments demand the greatest level of market knowledge and editorial judgement.
We survey buyers, sellers and brokers directly to discover deals and other significant information that informs price. Editorial judgement still plays an important role in our Survey assessments, particularly in new markets and markets where data is not readily available.
Market participants provide transactional data reports, that we analyze and collate into a rigorously tested volume weighted average. Outliers are analyzed and may be excluded from the final published price.
