Finding a better blend: the continuing evolution of Asian fuel markets

Asia’s oil industry must navigate a patchwork of fuel specifications and oxygenate blending requirements.

Those rules continue to evolve over time—with countries moving in a cleaner, greener direction, though not necessarily at the same pace.

In recent years, regional giants China and India have adopted stricter sulfur limits for transport fuels, while countries such as Pakistan, Singapore and Vietnam have followed suit. In January, S&P Global Platts lowered the sulfur content of its benchmark Singapore gasoil assessments from 500ppm to 10ppm to reflect this trend.

More changes are coming. Beijing and 27 adjacent Chinese regions are piloting a Phase VI standard that cuts down on pollutants and is due to be rolled out nationwide in 2019. Meanwhile, India is planning to lower its sulfur limit for diesel and gasoline to 10ppm by 2020.

What will be the impact of these shifts for oil refiners, marketers, biofuels producers and other market participants?

Join our 30-minute S&P Global Platts Insight Webinar to find out.

This webinar brings together specialists from across our energy news, oil and biofuels pricing and analytics teams to discuss the development of fuel specifications in Asia, and how they will continue to shape the market.
